The charming village of San Pedro de Atacama
is located on the Chilean central plateau, 156
miles from Antofagasta, in the very midst of the
Atacama Desert and has been inhabited since the
Inca era. The Spanish settled in this region at the
beginning the sixteenthcentury.
Furthermore, a series
of mummies have actually been discovered here among
which one could mention a 3,000 year-old mummy called
“Miss Chile”. Both the latter and its replica are exhibited in a
small museum near the village’s central square.
San Pedro de
Atacama is the point of departure for expeditions to the Andes
Mountain Chain, the Atacama salt-mines, the Tatio geysers, Toconao
Village and Valle de la Luna.
