The Austral Road is the parallel of the 40 Road
in Argentina and the extention of the Panamerican
Road which joins up Alaska to the Tierra del Fuego.
This is a unique road, built only 20 years ago, between
fjords and glaciers, ocean and forest. This is the less
populated region but probably the most beautiful. In the
North, the Pumalín Park is the largest private park
in the world. On the road, we follow the Futaleufú river,
world-famous for kayaking and rafting. Further on our way,
we find Coyhaique, capital of the region and its port Puerto
Chacabuco, point of departure for excursions to San Rafael Lagoon.
More in the South, you discover the magnificent General Carrera Lake and
Puerto Tranquilo, with its impossible to miss marble chapel. To end with, you reach the most austral point of the road, Villa O’higgins.
