THE SMALL NORTH

That is the end of the desert and the coming

in this region is La Serena, second historic city
of the country. This is the point of departure for
expeditions to the Elqui Valley, known for its
arboricultural andwine-producing activites, especially
the famous pisco production. We also can enjoy sky
watching in the astronomical observatories of La Silla,
Tololo and Las Campanas. We are indeed under the clearest
sky in the world. thanks to an exceptional dry climate, a lack of
pollution and a great atmospheric stability. Copiapó is also an important
stage for the expeditions to the Ojos del Salado, the highest volcanoe in the
world.
