TRAVEL BOOK
Day 1: Santiago de Chile - Puerto Montt - Puerto Varas - Petrohué - Puerto Varas
Private transfer from your hotel to Santiago airport.
Domestic flight from Santiago to Puerto Montt (time to be confirmed, flight indicated in option).
Arrival at Puerto Montt and transfer in a private vehicle to Puerto Varas next to Llanquihue lake.
In the morning drive to the Petrohue waterfalls, where we will take a short walk to get closer to the falls and enjoy the view with the volcano Osorno in the background. Then, drive up to the Osorno ski resort. The view from the top of the volcano is stunning: numerous volcanoes and Lake Llanquihue, third largest lake in South America. Continue round the lake to reach Frutillar, a small town founded in 1856 by the German settlers. Today this city is known for its beautiful German style houses.
Return to Puerto Varas at the end of the day.

Day 2: Puerto Varas - Caleta Gonzalo - Pumalin Park
This morning, you will leave for Patagonia. It is a first day to have a taste of the magnificent landscapes of the carretera austral. You will go from ferries to tracks through lush vegetation along the fjords to reach Pumalín National Park. A first ferry allows you to cross the Reloncaví Estuary and arrive in Hornopirén. You have to be in Hornopirén before 11:00 in order for you to take the ferry to cross the fjord (4 hours).
You will arrive in Caleta Gonzalo by the fjord. It is possible for you to hike in the primary forest of Pumalín National Park.

Night at the Cabanas Caleta Gonzalo ***

Day 3: Caleta Gonzalo - Puyuhuapi
From Caleta Gonzalo, drive through Pumalin Park and follow the Carretera Austral winding on the hills and valleys of Patagonia. You will get to Chaiten Park from where you can admire the same named volcano which engulfed the city after its eruption in 2008. Then, the road goes along the Pacific Ocean and will lead you to Chaiten. Continue to La Junta and to Puyuhuapi where you will spend the night.

Day 4: Puyuhuapi - Coyhaique
You will start from Puyuhuapi, a small village at the end of a fjord which is known for the producing of handcrafted carpets.
You will go down the Carretera Asutral alongside the Palena River, crossing various natural parks.
You will vvisit Queulat National Park to see its hanging glacier above the lagoon. This park contains multiple unexplored areas, reason why it still has savage and preserved landscapes.
Then, you will continue towards the only important city in this part of Patagonia: Coyhaique and its famous road, “Avenida Norte Sur”, which offers beautiful views of the Simpson River. The architecture is worth the detour.
The landscapes will slowly change. It is the place where the Tehuelches Indians used to live. Those indigenous people, known for their height (2 m), have long since disappeared.

Day 5: Coyhaique - Cerro Castillo National Park - Puerto Tranquilo
Arrival at Coyhaique airport, the capital of the region, where you will meet your driver.
You are now in the region of the "Carretera Austral", surrounded by national parks and reserves, fjords, and mountains. Head south to cross the Cerro Castillo National Reserve. You will come accross the Laguna Verde and Laguna Cofré before arriving at the General Carrera Lake, one of the largest in South America.

Day 6: Puerto Tranquilo - Lagoon San Rafael National Park - Puerto Tranquilo
Day excursion to visit the Laguna San Rafael and the fjords. Excursion to the Laguna San Rafael and its fjords. Boat trip along the canals and fjords to discover the wonderful fauna and flora of the area. Enter the San Rafael National Park, one of the biggest in Chile and head to the laguna. If weather allows it, you will see the glacier from up close on a boat (7-9 passengers) navigating among floating icebergs while having a glass of whisky "on the rocks" with thousand-year old ice.
Breakfast and Lunch included.
Return to Puerto Rio Tranquilo.

Day 7: Puerto Tranquilo - Puerto Guadal
In the morning, you will have the opportunity to get to the site of the Marble Chapel, a unique geological formation featuring a group of caverns, tunnels, and pillars created in monoliths of marble and formed by waves over the last 6,000 years or so.Drive along Lake General Carrera for a while before reaching Puerto Guadal, a small, isolated village by the lake. On the other side is Argentina and the lake has a different name: Lake Buenos Aires. Arrival on the banks of the lake. Enjoy the place and the amazing view on Lake and Mount San Valentin.

Day 8: Glacier Leones - Puerto Guadal - Glacier Leones - Puerto Guadal
Experience a day trip aboard the Patagonia Jet, departing from Puerto Guadal.
Navigation on Lake General Carrera to the outlet of the Leones River. You will travel for 40 minutes up to the Leones River and then walk to reach Lake Leones. You will then navigate some more towards the spectacular Leones Glacier, where you can observe three separate branches of the glacier calving into the lake.
You will stop for lunch in front of the glacier before you return at 17:00.

Day 9: Puerto Guadal - Puerto Bertrand
This morning, keep driving down further south on the Carretera Austral. Drive to Puerto Bertrand. Take your time this morning to drive along Lake Carrera before leaving it behind. The road is so beautiful that you will probably stop many times. De scenery changes at every turn.
Arrival in Puerto Bertrand.
Night at Green Baker Lodge Hotel ***.

Day 10: Puerto Bertrand - Paso Roballo - Cochrane
Departure from Puerto Bertrand in the morning. The road rises above the river giving a panoramic view of the canyon. Continue along the Rio Baker with its colors and fast flow.
You will then enter the future Patagonia Park to the east. Discover this natural park, with isolated landscape changing every 20 kilometers and an important wildlife. You will come across incredible amounts of guanacos and can photograph the flight of the flamingos between the two borders.
Drive to Cochrane.

Day 11: Cochrane - Tortel
Get to the top of Tortel. It is surprising how the village is divided into three bays and stretches for about 1.5 km. Everything is connected by wooden walkways. Fishing boats are numerous.
Let yourself wander around this strange little village lost in this amazing Patagonian fjord.

Day 12: Tortel
Make the most of this day to walk in the region. Your hotel may have some excursions to offer. We advise you the hike of the mirador (hilly path, some three hours walk) which offers a wonderful panorama of the fjords and the Baker River, or the navigation to the Steffen Glacier.

Day 13: Tortel - Villa O'Higgins
Today you will drive the last kilometres on this legendary road. At the end of the road, you will find Villa O'Higgins. You will follow a very bumpy road in the middle of virgin forests and rivers full of water (rains here are very common, even in summer) and then cross the Mitchell Fjord by ferry.
Arrival at the hotel.
The road stops here, there is nothing else apart from a fjord that one can cross by ferry to reach Argentina.

Day 14: Villa O'Higgins - Candelario Mancilla
This morning, you will check-out early and take a bus to the port. You will embark on the Quetru (capacity of 58 passengers). The crossing begins, the boat stops in front of the O'Higgins glacier for approximately 1 hour before resuming its journey. You will land around 17.00. You will spend the night at Ricardo Levican's, descendant of the first colonists that settled there in the 20th century.

Day 15: Candelario Mancilla - El Chalten
Departure from Puerto Candelario Mancilla in a private vehicle. After a 20-km drive, you will start hiking for 6 km on a muddy ground. You luggage will be carried by horse (20 kg max per person). You will reach the Laguna del Desierto where you will go through the Argentinian border post before embarking on a boat bound for the south point of the laguna.
Once you land, immediate departure on a bus to reach El Chaltén around 21.00.

Visit Buenos Aires (full day, private tour).
Buenos Aires, a cosmopolitan city with European features, is among the 10 most active cities in the world.
City of arts, cultures, theatres, traditions ... The variety satisfies even the most demanding visitor.
Guided tour of Recoleta neighbourhood, characterized by colonial houses, often old houses of historical figures, currently inhabited by powerful Argentine families. You enter the luxurious Pacifico Shopping Center, characterized by its French architecture of 1889, with vaulted ceilings. This stunning place is one of the favourite places in Argentina.
Later you visit Recoleta Cemetery, where many celebrities, writers and politicians rest. The best known and most revered, even today is the tomb of Evita Peron, the legendary wife of President Peron.
You continue your visit to Palermo neighbourhood, with a stroll in the park Tres de Febrero, inaugurated in 1875, representing the largest green area of the city.
In the early afternoon, you visit San Telmo neighbourhood, with its many antique shops.
Return to the hotel in late afternoon.
