Day 0:

Day 1: Santiago de Chile

Arrival in Santiago and private transfer to your hotel.


An English-speaking guide will accompany you during the transfer.
Visit of Chile's capital, nestled at the foot of the Andes. Although Santiago has become over the years a modern and bustling city, some older neighbourhoods have preserved their atmosphere and a romantic charm.
You will visit the Plaza de Armas, San Francisco Church, the Bellavista area, Cerro San Cristobal, etc.

Day 2: Santiago de Chile - Arica - Putre

Private transfer from your hotel to Santiago airport.


Domestic flight from Santiago to Arica (time to be confirmed, flight indicated in option).

5-day expedition in a private vehicle with a Spanish-speaking driver.
Meet your driver/guide at Chacalluta Airport, located in the desert 15 km north of Arica, near the Peruvian border. Immediate departure to begin an incredible climb to 3,500 m of altitude. In a little more than 150 km, you will reach the pleasant village of Putre (about 5 hours drive with stops). You will see, among other things, geoglyphs and petroglyphs, the terraced fields of Socorama, candelabra cactus on the edge of the canyon, and beautiful views of the Nevados de Putre (5 824 m alt.).
Night in the village of Putre. Excellent base to begin acclimatization.

Day 3: Putre - Lauca National Park - Putre


Option 1: Start your day by going to the Chungará Lake before going down to the Lagunas de Cotacotani (3 hours walk). The guide will show you the way and pick you up at the end of the walk. Then, you will drive down to Parinacota and Putre.
Option 2: Take a short walk (around 30 minutes) to get to Las Cuevas. In the village of Parinacota, the vehicle will pick you up and you will drive down to the Lagunas de Cotacotani, without doing the hike. You will then continue to the Chungará Lake and to Putre at the end of the day.

Day 4: Putre - Salar de Surire - Colchane


Head south through Las Vicuñas National Reserve and follow the active Guallatiri Volcano (6,063 m and fumaroles around the summit) before arriving at the Surire Salt Flat (4,245 m alt.) which takes its name from the presence of ostriches (“suri” in Aymara). Observation of different species of flamingos, as well as many llamas, alpacas and vicuñas. Lunch break near the hot springs. Continue on a narrow track that descends south, crossing the colonial villages of Enquelga (3,850 m alt.) and Isluga (3,980 m alt.).

Day 5: Colchane - Pica


From Colchane, the track takes you south to a No Man’s Land close to the border. You will drive around Cariquima Volcano (el. 5,390 meters above sea level.) then over the Portezuelo Pass (at an elevation of 5,075 meters!) to arrive at the Huasco Salt Flat. This natural basin surrounded by volcanoes, at 3,700 meters above sea level, impresses by its loneliness. It is the most beautiful imaginable spot for an outdoor lunch!
In the afternoon, you will descend to 2,400m to reach Pica. The desolate Pampa gives in to a lush oasis of orange and lemon groves and guava trees. It is a pure pleasure!

Day 6: Pica - Calama - Santiago de Chile


From Pica, you will keep on descending towards Cerros Pintados, where you will admire interesting gigantic geoglyphs. On the slopes of the surrounding hills, the pre-Colombian civilizations drew around 350 figures, representing human, animals and abstract shapes. You will reach the famous Pan-American Highway, the road linking Alaska to Tierra del Fuego. You will cross the whole Pampa del Tamarugal. This desolate area witnessed a real rush at the end of the 19th century, not for gold but for saltpetre. Numerous abandoned “oficinas” tell of this ephemeral and tragic past. You will then head towards Calama where you will arrive at the end of the day.

Day 7: Santiago de Chile - Temuco - Temuco Airport - Pucón

Private transfer from your hotel to Santiago airport.


Domestic flight from Santiago to Temuco (time to be confirmed, flight indicated in option).

Welcome at Temuco airport and transfer to Lake Villarica, 1:30h drive. You are now in the lake and volcano region, on the way you see the Llaima volcano and we are now facing the volcano Villarrica, a perfect cone. Arrival in Pucon for lunch. Check into your hotel and end of the day by the lake at leisure.

Day 8: Puerto Varas - Huilo Huilo

You leave the shores of Lake Villarrica in the early morning to go further south. The road "Interlagos" was built specifically to enjoy the beauty of each of these lakes and to get off the Pan-American Highway. You can take lots of breaks, to take pictures and enjoy the fresh water of the lakes or the warm waters of the hot springs, typical in this volcanic region. A two-hour drive will take you along the lakes Calafquén and Panguipulli. You will have views of the Villarrica Volcano, from different angles, at almost all times. You will arrive on the outskirts of the Huilo Huilo Reserve with in front of you the Choshuenco Volcano. Check into your hotel which architecture surprisingly integrates perfectly with the environment. The magic of this reserve will enchant you. Relax at the hotel spa complex.

Day 9: Huilo Huilo


First day at leisure. Enjoy your stay at the pace of the reserve, its incredible nature and calm. You can choose from the following activities (not included):

Day 10: Huilo Huilo - Pucón - Puerto Varas

This morning you leave the Huilo Huilo reserve to reach Pucon. On your way, you enjoy scenic views on the lakes and small breaks for a dip in the fresh water of the lakes Calafquen, Panguipulli, Riñihue or the warm waters of the numerous hot springs, famous in this volcanic region. Program: photos and dips in the fresh water of the lakes or in the warm waters of the hot springs which abound in this volcanic region. You end your day in Pucon where on blue sky days the Villarica volcano is almost waiting for you.

Day 11: Puerto Varas - Punihuil Natural Monument - Castro

Departure at 9 a.m. with your guide.


You hit the road to reach Puerto Montt, capital of the Lake District, and then take the Panamericana 5 to the port of Pargua. From there, a 30 minutes ferry ride takes you to Chiloe island in the village of Chacao. You visit the Puñihuil Penguins National Reserve and embark on a boat for an amazing encounter with these incredible animals (30 minutes navigation). Then, you head further south to Castro, the capital of Chiloe, and visit its famous wooden UNESCO world heritage cathedral built in 1910.


End of the afternoon, check-in at the hotel.

Day 12: Castro - Chiloé National Park - Cucao - Castro

Departure at 9 a.m. with your guide.


In the morning, you visit some of the famous wooden churches of Chiloé classified World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. You reach Cucao for lunch to enjoy a traditional meal. Your pursue the day with a 2/3 hours walk on the beautiful pathes of the Chiloe national park.

Day 13: Cucao - Castro - Puerto Varas

Departure from Cucao at 9 a.m. with your guide.

Castro is famous for its houses on stilts, handy indeed for those by the water, but even for those further away because it rains a lot there. You visit some of the famous wooden churches of Chiloé classified World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. You take a ferry to reach the second most important island of the archipelago : Quinchao. A pleasant walk take you through charming fishing villages ; fishing and agriculture being the main resources of the island.

At lunch time, we come back to the Greater island of Chiloe to go to the Dalcahue big market and enjoy the typical local meal, the curanto.

By late afternoon, return to the Puerto Varas by the same ferry that brought you here.

Day 14: Puerto Varas - Puerto Montt - Santiago de Chile


Two hours before your flight, transfer from Puerto Varas to El Tepual airport (Puerto Montt).
