Day 1: Santiago de Chile

Arrival in Santiago and private transfer to your hotel.


An English-speaking guide will accompany you during the transfer.
Visit of the Chilean capital, nestled at the foot the Andes, with a unique charm. Although it has become over the years a modern and very active city, some older neighbourhoods have preserved a romantic charm and atmosphere. You will Visit the Plaza de Armas, San Francisco Church, the Bellavista area, etc.

Day 2: Santiago de Chile - Arica - Codpa

Private transfer from your hotel to Santiago airport.


Domestic flight from Santiago to Arica (time to be confirmed, flight indicated in option).

6-day expedition in a private vehicle with a Spanish-speaking driver.
Meet your driver/guide at Chacalluta International Airport, located in the desert, 15 km north of Arica, near the Peruvian border, or at your hotel in Arica. Immediate departure for Codpa, ideal stop to get used to the altitude before going to Putre. You will stay at the Codpa Valley Lodge, oasis in the heart of the altiplano where you will find all the commodities you need to have a good time.

Day 3: Codpa - Lauca National Park - Putre


After the 1,900 m climb of the previous day, you will leave to begin an incredible climb of 3,500 m of altitude, in little more than 50 km, to reach the pleasant village of Putre (about 5 hours drive with stops). You can see among other things geoglyphs and petroglyphs, the terraced fields of Socoroma, candelabra cactus on the edge of the canyon, and beautiful views of the Nevado de Putre (5,824 m alt.).
You will then continue for a short 30-minute walk on Las Cuevas route and after that head to Laguna Cotacotani, wonderful viewpoint, and Chungará Lake before going back down to Putre. You will spend the night in the small town of Putre, an excellent place to complete acclimatation.

Day 4: Putre - Salar de Surire - Putre


Heading south through the Vicuña National Reserve. You will follow the active volcano Guallatiri at 6,063 m alt. (fumaroles around the summit) before arriving at the Surire Salt Flat (4,245 m alt.), which takes its name from the presence of ostriches (“suri” in Aymara). Observation of different species of flamingos, as well as many llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas. Lunch break near the hot springs.
Return journey to Putre.

Day 5: Putre - Iquique


Today, you will go from 3,500 metres to zero, heading towards Iquique. Visit of the city centre before going to the hotel.

Night at the Hotel Velero ***.

Day 6: Iquique - Salar de Huasco - Pica


Visit of Humberstone, former saltpeter factory, now, a ghost town. You will then continue to reach the famous geoglyphs of Cerros Pintados, known as the “Atacama Giant”, before reaching the village of Pica. Here, the arid landscapes give way to an oasis full of orange, lemon and guava trees. What a joy!
Then, road to Matilla and the friendly and laid-back desert oasis of Pica. Visit of the town, of Cocha Resbaladero, of the Quebrada de Quisma, and of La Tirana.

Day 7: Pica - San Pedro de Atacama


Departure after breakfast to reach San Pedro de Atacama, in a private vehicle.

Day 8: Lagunes altiplaniques - Piedras Rojas - San Pedro de Atacama


Departure from your hotel around 10:00 in the morning. Day fully dedicated to the discovery of the Atacama Salt Flat and its surroundings. The village of Socaire, the Quebrada de Jérez, the Chaxa, Miscanti and Miñiques lagoons and their volcanoes are the must-see of this visit, as well as the Piedras Rojas area and the Tuyacto laguna.
Lunch at a restaurant in Socaire.
Return to San Pedro at the end of the afternoon passing by the village of Toconao. Visit of its church, its central place, and its craft market.

Day 9: El Tatio Geysers - San Pedro de Atacama

Departure between 4.30 and 6.00 (time depends on the vehicle and the season) from the hotel towards the Tatio. You will arrive at the perfect time to admire the sunrise and the geysers roaring in the cold air of the Altiplano. The valley looks like a giant pot. Water spurts here and there. This geological curiosity mixes a ground still frozen with boiling hot clear water springs (70°C/160°F). Observation of numerous volcanic formations. After a few hours, return to San Pedro via the Machuca Valley.

Day 10: Calama - Arica - Santiago de Chile - Valparaiso & Viña del mar

Transfer to Calama Airport.

Domestic flight from Arica to Santiago (time to be confirmed, flight indicated in option).

Departure at 09:00 from your hotel and ride to Valparaiso.

Visit of this town and its old quarters, listed as a World Heritage by UNESCO. With its many hills crowned with picturesque houses and warehouses, its steep narrow streets, its funicular railways and street singers, the city has a particular identity and a very special atmosphere.
Make sure you have lunch in a typical seafood restaurant.
Visit of La Sebastiana, one of Pablo Neruda's houses.
